North Dakota Update: Judiciary Committee, Then House Votes Against Kratom Ban Bill
On January 14, the North Dakota House Judiciary Committee voted against the kratom ban bill. Then on January 15, the entire ND House voted against the bill.
The Do Not Pass vote prevents HB 1101 from moving forward at this time. The Committee voted 10 to 3 in opposition to the bill, with one member abstaining.
The bill was then placed on the calendar for a vote in the North Dakota House. This vote happened a day later, on January 15. The House voted 77-15 in opposition to the bill.
Introduced on January 7, 2025, HB 1101 would have criminalized the manufacture, sale, purchase, and possession of substances containing mitragynine, kratom's most abundant alkaloid.
The bill's sponsor, Republican Rep. Jeremy Olson said he sponsored the bill due to reports from a single for-profit rehabilitation center.
